Port of Prince Rupert Annual Emissions Inventory

Port of Prince Rupert

Viterstream has been assisting the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) with the generation of an annual emissions inventory of their full port-wide operations since 2022. Consistent with guidance from Transport Canada, the US EPA and the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH), port emission inventories account for the energy consumption, criteria air contaminant (CAC) and GHG emissions from:

– Admin (buildings, compound lighting)

– Cargo Handling Equipment (CHE)

– Onroad Vehicles

– Rail

– Marine Vessels (Ocean-going Vessels, Harbour Vessels)

The inventories are built with the Port Emissions Inventory Tool (PEIT), a database model that was originally built by a team including Viterstream staff and is now maintained and updated by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

Viterstream worked with the PRPA to

  • assist with tenant engagement;

  • review tenant data submissions for accuracy;

  • apply the PEIT model and check for errors;

  • calculate performance metrics for the key air contaminants of interest;

  • complete annual reporting.
